I own the 3ds XL. I like how on the VITA there is a cover piece that goes over the cartdrige after you insert the game.
Why didn't nintendo make a small plastic cover piece to protect the games? It's no big deal,
but something could easily fall in the game slot if you have no game in there. You could damage something if you dropped an item.
The game slot is wide open on the 3ds. I just like how vita has a cover to snap over your games.

Only the top edge of a game is exposed while it is in the system, so the chances of the actual cart being damaged by any external force are pretty much slim to none. I can't imagine a little cover to protect that small fraction of the game as anything but a inconvenience.
Yes but when the game slot is empty it is exposed to materials falling in. I think they should have had a protector cover to put over the cartdrige slot when no game is in there especially.

I cannot play games on my 3ds. When I put a game in the 3ds does not load or even recognize the game. This happens with all games not just one particular game. I have inspected my games and the pins are not the problem. Help please
I putted a piece of paper but it didnt work
One of my 3ds games wont load either. I tried cleaning the contacts but that hasn't made a difference. Also none of the contacts seem broken/damaged. Anyone have any ideas to fix this?

There are several things that commonly cause this type of problem:
1) the pins inside the 3DS game slot may be dirty. If this is the case then the first thing to try is to insert a game and then take it back out several times in a row (like 10). If that doesn't work then you can use rubbing alcohol and soak a q tip in it, then rub it on the pins of one of your games. After the pins are wet with alcohol insert it and take it out several times. If none of this works then try the next option:
2) if the pins in the game slot are not dirty then you likely have either a bent pin or one that has been pushed down and needs to be pulled back up. The best way to tell if this is the case is to use a good, bright light and shine it into the game slot. While the light is on it you need to take something like a dental pick and insert it into the game slot. You will see a thin metal piece that will move. You need to move this piece up so you can see the actual game slot pins. See if any are bent. You also need to look at them all very carefully to see if any of them are lower than the others. If they are then they need to be bent back up.
You will also want to look to see if there is anything jammed in the game slot. I've seen that several times too.
Both methods (but especially #2) need to be done very carefully. Someone who is good and experienced at this can probably fix it without taking anything apart. Sometimes the bottom case needs to be removed to repair it, and if it's really broken the whole game slot will need to be replaced.
I could repair this for you if you don't feel comfortable doing it.

Well I think ill sell my DS lite, get a GBA SP since its better for GBA games, and then grab one of these eventually.
It would have been nice for a GBA slot though, one that works with old GB games too. Maybe dsware VC?

I have yet to figure out people's infatuation with the GBA (no offense TC)
GBA was a solid system with a lot of really awesome games that have withstood the test of time and are still really fun to play. Yeah, most people who still want to play GBA games have a GBA to play them on, but most people don't carry multiple handheld game systems around with them, and you've gotta admit that it would be really cool to have one handheld that could play all the newest games as well as all your old favorites from decades past in one discrete package. Unreasonable and totally unrealistic, but still really cool. So cool that it keeps people wishing and hoping for it, even though there's no way it's ever going to happen (legally).

How so? The GBA is two generations old at this point, just like the SNES was 2 generations old at the time of release of the gamecube. This is a perfectly apt comparison, unless you're thinking the 3DS is just another DS redesign. It's clearly not. I'm really lost as to how there is ANY confusion over the fact that this is the successor to the DS.

Probably not. Does the wii have a slot for super nintendo games?
Consoles you can play GBA games on:
game boy advance
game boy advance SP
game boy micro
nintendo DS (phat)
nintendo DS lite
gamecube (gameboy player)
Surely you have at least one of those. And if nintendo includes a GBA slot then they wouldn't have much of a reason to start putting portable games on the virtual console, eh?

First off, there's a total change in medium. You're not going from cart to cart, like GBA to DS. You're going from cartridge to cartridge to small disks. Totally different mediums. Second of all, there was no BC present in the gamecube, the SNES, or the N64 that I know of. So there was no example to follow. On the other hand, there was BC on the DS, so one could point to that as an example of it being done.
User info: madman21
No change in medium? Hold up a GBA game next to a DS game and tell me they are the same. You're going from a cartridge to a card. There is a HUGE difference in size, shape, etc. That makes the necessity for extra hardware being built into the system a necessity.
Also, BC in the DS aside. That's not a strong argument whatsoever. For starters, we as gamers are not owed anything. It's not as simple as "just put in a slot for my games!" ask sony why they started out supporting BC for the PS2 on the PS3 and removed the technology later. It just wasn't feasible. And that's a non-change in the medium used as well. The expectations for you to be able to play games from the GBA era on a system two generations removed is not only unreasonable, but ridiculous. I'd much rather get a system with nintendo's attention payed to making it the best it can be than have them waste time figuring out a way for ungrateful gamers to play games that they have a multitude of systems to play them on already.

And speaking of SNES, you know what it had?
I'm speaking of course of addons, but you get the point.

So tell nintendo to make an add-on to cater to the small minority of people that want to play GBA games on their DS.

How to remove the microsd card from the new 3DS XL
Remove the new 3DS XL 4GB card and insert a new microsdhc card using these simple steps.
By christopher buffa
Nintendo’s new 3DS XL releases in the U.S. On february 13 alongside monster hunter 4 ultimate and the legend of zelda: majora’s mask 3D. The promise of improved 3D and the analog nub may convince people to spend $199.99 per system, but unless they read up on the handheld, some consumers will be in for two surprises. First, there’s no AC adapter inside the box. Second, the new 3DS XL takes microsd and microsdhc cards, not the SD cards we’ve used with the 3DS since it debuted in 2011. Yup, you have to buy something else.
Well maybe. The unit comes with a 4GB card nestled snugly within its microsd slot, but if you have thoughts of downloading retail 3DS games from the eshop, this free space will quickly disappear.
Thankfully, buying a microsdhc card is the easy part. In fact, the new 3DS XL will accept up to a 32GB microsdhc card, which is the ideal size for digital download crusaders. Inserting it into the system, however, is the trickier part.
Unlike the 3DS and 3DS XL, this new model does not have an easily accessible card slot on the outside. The port is on the bottom, hidden beneath a thin plastic shell held in place with two tiny screws.
It’s different and unlike anything we’ve seen on a video game console or handheld device, but don’t worry. After viewing these steps, you’ll realize the process is fairly simple.
WARNING: turn off the new 3DS XL before removing its plastic cover and microsd card. To be on the safe side, unplug the system from the AC adapter.
Step 1: place your new 3DS XL upside down and locate the two screws
A clean kitchen counter or desk will do. If you want to be extra careful, place a soft towel beneath the system to avoid scratching it.
The screws keep the plastic firmly in place, helping prevent both the microsdhc card and battery from falling out.
Step 2: get the appropriately sized phillips head screwdriver
The average phillips head screwdriver won’t cut it here. You’ll need something much smaller, likely in the 0-1 range. Gently turn the screwdriver counterclockwise (to the left) to begin loosening the screw, and then repeat the process for the other one.
Make sure the screwdriver comfortably fits, and avoid stripping the screw, which will make it somewhat tougher to loosen and tighten later.
Turn each screw several times to loosen it. There’s no such thing as loosening too much, since you cannot remove these screws from the plastic.
Note: a frearson head screwdriver may also work, but use a phillips head. Chances are you already have one somewhere.
Step 3: gently pop open the plastic cover
With the screws loosened, make note of the grooves next to each screw on the left and right sides of the new 3DS XL.
In the manual, nintendo suggests using the new 3DS XL stylus to lift the plastic cover upwards. You can do that, but keep two things in mind:
- Make sure you wedge the stylus all the way into the groove before lifting. Otherwise you may slightly damage the plastic cover.
- If that doesn’t sound appealing, use your index fingers. Place one finger into each groove and gently lift the plastic cover upwards, applying equal amounts of force per finger.
When the plastic cover pops upwards, slowly remove it by sliding down. The cover should completely disengage from the new 3DS XL.
Check out the two washers holding each screw in place. These little guys will prevent those screws from falling out.
Now put the cover someplace safe.
Step 4: locate the microsd card slot
Should be easy enough, considering you can see the very top of the 4GB card and, well, the slot says microsd. Convenient!
While you’re here, make note of the battery. It’s doubtful you’ll ever need to remove and replace it. Leave it alone for now.
To remove the microsd card, place an index finger on top of the card and push it downwards. Doing this disengages the card from the slot. Now gently place a fingernail into the groove on top of the card and slide it out.
With the 4GB card removed, insert the new card text side up and then gently push it into the slot. You’ll hear a tiny click. This locks the card in place.
Step 5: reattach the plastic cover
There are two ways to do this.
With the first method, begin attaching the plastic cover by aligning the bottom portion with the game card slot, headphone jack, stylus and power button. From there, slide the cover upwards and the screws will fit into their grooves.
Now for the second method. First place the screws into their slots. Now place both your thumbs on the bottom portion of the cover (one thumb on each side) and gently push downwards.
Keep in mind that when reapplying the plastic cover, there’s a chance you will inadvertently press the power button, thereby turning on the new 3DS XL. Based on our tests, this happened more using the second method.
With the plastic cover in place, use the screwdriver to tighten the screws by turning each one clockwise (to the right). After a few turns they will stop moving. When that happens remove the screwdriver and focus on the remaining screw.
Do not overturn! Otherwise you risk damaging the screw.

SD card slot replacement question
Nintendo 3DS
User info: kinneth123
I'm buying a new 3DS SD card slot to replace my broken one because doing so will be a lot quicker of a fix than sending it into nintendo and having to pay upwards of $80.
. But I won't know what to do once the part gets shipped, is there a place that can walk me through it? (and will I need anything other than a screwdriver?)
User info: keyblader1985
User info: kinneth123
The part isn't expensive or anything.
I'm going to look into it but I figured I'd see if there were any well-known sources of information for this that someone could pass along to me.
I asked for help related to game hardware on that hardware's topic, go figure.
User info: akira1256
If you're willing to take the risk, of course.

I don't know; whenever I'm fixing something, I usually don't think to look on a forum, unless the guides I'm using have already failed me.

Well I mean without the SD card slot working properly the 3DS is essentially useless anyway, worst case scenario I just end up having to buy a new one later on after all.

I changed a 3ds touchscreen recently, I can tell you that the sd slot is one of the easiest component to access inside the 3ds. I don't think you'd have any problem changing it yourself, as long as you are methodical.
If you are afraid you might have difficulty putting it back together, take a pic with your phone of each step you take.

This is very helpful. I've been doing self repairs for several years now and taking pictures before I change around parts helps, especially if parts are from china and lack certain markings or colors.
So, let's see, what we have: for nintendo 3DS on the 3DS, a gamefaqs message board topic titled "I wish the 3ds had a cover slot where you insert the games.". At cover slot game 3ds
